TLDR: Compliance-aware web design means the regulatory review is designed in from the start: disclosures as planned components, copy written with claims discipline, checkable facts where diligence looks for them, a CMS with a draft-review-publish path, and conservative handling of forms and tracking. Templates fail here because they have none of that structure.

A financial services website has two audiences: the buyer and the regulator. Most design agencies build for the first and discover the second three days before launch, when legal sends back the homepage with eleven comments. Compliance-aware design means the review was built in from the start. Here is what that looks like in practice.

Disclosures are design elements

Every advisory firm, fund, and fintech carries required language: risk disclosures, regulatory registrations, jurisdiction notes, past-performance caveats. On most sites these arrive at the end and get crammed into a grey footer nobody planned for. On a compliance-aware site, disclosure blocks are designed components from day one: legible, consistently placed, and connected to the claims they qualify. A disclosure that legal is proud of and a page that still looks premium can coexist. It takes planning, that is all.

Claims discipline in copy

Financial marketing copy lives inside rules. You do not promise returns. You do not cherry-pick performance. Superlatives need substantiation. A copywriter who has not worked in this space will write "the best returns in the industry" and mean well. The rewrite cycle that follows costs weeks. Copy written with claims discipline passes review in one round, because every sentence was written knowing someone in compliance would read it.

Trust is built with specifics, quietly

Institutional buyers and their consultants check specific things: who runs the firm and where they worked before, what the firm is registered as and where, how custody works, who the auditors are. Vague trust language ("trusted by thousands") reads as retail and gets discounted. A compliance-aware site puts the checkable facts where diligence looks for them: team pages with real histories, a legal page that answers questions instead of hiding, registration numbers where relevant.

The CMS needs an approval path

Marketing wants to publish weekly. Compliance needs to review first. If your CMS has no draft state and no review step, one of two things happens: publishing stops, or review gets skipped. Neither is fine. We architect the CMS so insights, fund pages, and announcements have a draft-review-publish path your compliance process can live with.

Forms, cookies, and data

Financial audiences are sensitive about data, and regulators are more so. That means honest cookie behavior, forms that collect the minimum, clear privacy language, and no marketing pixels quietly forwarding visitor data somewhere legal does not know about. This is boring work. It is also the difference between passing a vendor review and failing one.

Why templates fail here

A template was designed for a generic SaaS company. It has no disclosure system, no claims discipline, no review workflow, and a footer built for three links and a copyright line. You can force financial content into it, and the result reads exactly like what it is.

Who we do this for

We work as a design partner to Janus Henderson, an asset manager, and we have built for advisory firms like Cardo Holdings and regulated-adjacent products like Lava, a Bitcoin lending platform. The pattern across all of them: compliance stops being a blocker when the design respects it from the first artboard.

If your firm’s website needs to pass both audiences, book a 20 minute call.
