TLDR: Ask every Framer agency the same ten questions: who does the work, what happened after launch on a comparable project, who writes the copy, how they handle SEO during migration, whether you can edit the site yourself, what they do when the template ceiling appears, the week-by-week process, exact scope, what happens after launch, and who owns the accounts. Template shops get vague on copy, migration, and custom code.
Most Framer agency portfolios look identical: dark hero, big type, smooth scroll. The differences that will make or break your project are invisible in a portfolio, so you have to ask for them. These are the ten questions we would ask before hiring anyone, including us.
1. Who exactly will do the work?
The classic agency move is a senior person on the sales call and juniors on the project. Ask who designs, who builds, and who you talk to weekly. If those are three different people and one of them joined last quarter, price that in.
2. Show me a B2B project like mine, and what happened after launch
Anyone can show screenshots. Ask what the site did: leads, rankings, sales cycle, anything real. An honest "the client reports X" beats invented percentages. If every case study ends in a suspiciously round number, be careful.
3. Who writes the copy?
The single most common project killer. If the answer is "you send us the text," your six-week project is now a four-month project, and the design was made for placeholder text your real words will never fit.
4. What happens to my SEO during the move?
If you have an existing site, migration without a redirect map and metadata parity will burn your rankings. Ask them to describe their migration process. If the answer does not include the word "redirects," end the call.
5. Will I be able to edit the site myself?
A proper Framer build gives your team a CMS for the things that change: projects, posts, jobs, team. A lazy build hard-codes everything, and you pay the agency $150 every time a title changes. Ask to see the CMS of a past project.
6. What do you do when the template ceiling shows up?
Every visual builder has one. Integrations, interactive tools, tracking, data from your product. The answer you want is comfort with custom code. The answer you often get is silence.
7. What does the process look like, week by week?
You are listening for a shape: strategy, then design direction, then build, then QA, with named check-ins. "We are agile" with no structure means you are the project manager now.
8. What is in scope, precisely?
Brand identity or existing brand applied? Copy written or copy edited? SEO setup or SEO wishes? How many revision rounds? Vague scope is where relationships die.
9. What happens after launch?
Sites decay. Ask whether they offer a care plan, what it costs, and what response time looks like. An agency that disappears at launch was renting you a deliverable, and you wanted a partner.
10. Who owns everything?
The Framer project, the domain, the analytics, the accounts. The answer must be: you, from day one, in your own workspace. Anything else is a hostage situation with extra steps.
The short version
A real agency answers all ten without flinching, and the answers are specific. A template shop gets vague at questions 3, 4, and 6. That is the tell.
Budgets and price bands are covered in how much a Framer website costs. If you want our answers to these ten, book a 20 minute call and ask them. You will leave with concrete next steps either way.
