TLDR: Products built fast in Replit work but read as prototypes: default components, template landing page, no brand. A design pass covers positioning and copy, a real brand identity, a marketing site separate from the app, and polish inside the product. Do it before you charge money, raise, or start outbound.

Replit will take you from idea to working product in a weekend. That part of the promise is real, we build with it ourselves. What it will not give you is a brand, a story, or a website that convinces a stranger to enter a credit card. That is the gap this post is about, because we are seeing the same pattern weekly now: the product works, and it cannot get taken seriously.

Every vibe-coded product looks the same

Default component library. The same three fonts. A landing page with a gradient hero, three feature cards, and testimonials from nobody. AI-generated illustrations that almost match each other. None of this is a moral failing, it is what happens when a builder optimizes for shipping, which is exactly what you should have optimized for.

The problem arrives with the first real buyer. B2B customers, and anyone paying real money, run the same subconscious check an investor runs: does this look like a company that will exist next year? A prototype-grade surface says no before your product gets to speak.

What a design pass actually covers

Positioning and copy first. Most vibe-coded products describe their features because the features were the fun part. Buyers need the problem, who it is for, and why now. Getting the words right changes the landing page more than any visual decision.

A brand identity. A real wordmark, type system, color decisions, and rules for how it all behaves. Days of work at this scale, not months, and it compounds across everything you ship after.

A marketing site that is separate from the app. The app is for users. The site is for people deciding whether to become one. They have different jobs, and gluing marketing pages into the app repo makes both worse. We typically build the site on a platform your non-technical cofounder can edit.

Polish inside the product. Spacing, hierarchy, empty states, onboarding. The first ten minutes of product experience is part of the purchase decision. This work happens in your repo, in your stack, alongside your code. We are comfortable in code, which is what makes this possible without a rebuild.

When to do it

Three honest triggers: you are about to charge money, you are about to raise, or you are starting outbound. Before any of those, ugly is free. After any of them, every prototype signal costs you conversions you never see.

What to keep

Keep the speed. Keep the stack. Nothing in a design pass requires abandoning Replit or rewriting the product. The point is to keep shipping like a hacker while reading like a company.
