The Brief
Stack builds developer tools that simplify complex workflows. Their website needed to speak authentically to developers — a notoriously skeptical audience when it comes to marketing — while remaining accessible enough for the non-technical decision-makers who approve tool purchases. The previous site was too generic, lacking the technical depth developers expect and the clarity executives need.
Discovery & Strategy
Developer Audience Research
Developers evaluate tools differently: they want to see code examples, not marketing copy. They trust documentation over testimonials. They look for GitHub stars, API quality, and community activity over brand polish. We built the site's credibility signals around these developer-native trust markers.
Simultaneously, we ensured the business case was clearly articulated for team leads and CTOs who care about ROI, security, and enterprise support rather than code syntax.
Design Approach
Code-Native Aesthetics
The design uses a monospace accent font for technical content, syntax-highlighted code blocks, and a dark/light theme toggle — signals that immediately establish technical credibility. Interactive demos are embedded directly in feature pages, letting developers try before they commit.
Layout follows a developer documentation pattern: left sidebar navigation, centered content, and right-side contextual notes. This feels immediately familiar to anyone who's used docs sites like Stripe or Vercel.
Development & Build
Technical Content System
The CMS supports code blocks with syntax highlighting, tabbed content (showing the same concept in multiple languages), and version-aware documentation. Feature pages combine marketing-style benefit statements with expandable technical specifications — serving both audiences without forcing a choice.
Integration pages are auto-populated from a CMS collection with filtering by language, framework, and use case. Each integration has structured data for SEO, driving organic traffic from developers searching for specific tool combinations.
Results & Impact
Developer Adoption
The redesigned site became a key part of Stack's developer acquisition funnel. Organic traffic from developer-focused long-tail keywords increased significantly. The interactive demos reduced the time from first visit to trial signup, as developers could evaluate the tool without committing to an account.
