TLDR: Shopify suits teams that want a managed commerce platform, predictable maintenance, and a focused store workflow. WooCommerce suits teams that need WordPress ownership, unusual content models, or deeper control and already have technical support. Israeli payment, invoicing, shipping, Hebrew, and tax needs can be handled on both, but the available integrations and maintenance burden differ.

The core tradeoff

Shopify manages hosting, platform updates, security, and much of the commerce infrastructure. WooCommerce runs inside WordPress and gives broad control, while placing hosting, plugin compatibility, updates, and security on your team or partner.

Payments in Israel

Shopify Payments is not currently available in Israel, so Shopify stores use supported third-party providers. WooCommerce also depends on gateway plugins and provider support. Compare real fees, supported currencies, refunds, subscriptions, and operational fit before choosing.

Hebrew and bilingual stores

Both can support Hebrew and RTL. Quality depends on the theme, apps or plugins, content model, and QA. Shopify provides a more contained theme system. WooCommerce can be flexible, with a larger surface for plugin conflicts.

SEO and content

Both platforms can rank well. WooCommerce inherits the broad WordPress publishing ecosystem. Shopify offers a focused commerce structure and clean operational workflow. The deciding factor is usually content ambition and the team responsible for publishing.

Maintenance and ownership

Shopify reduces infrastructure maintenance and keeps the business inside a managed platform. WooCommerce provides control over the WordPress stack and asks the owner to manage that stack. Choose the responsibility model your team can support consistently.

Our rule of thumb

Choose Shopify when commerce operations, reliability, and a clear admin workflow lead the decision. Choose WooCommerce when WordPress content architecture or custom ownership requirements lead the decision and technical support is already in place.
