When a full-time web hire makes sense, when a website partner fits better, and what to ask any partner before you sign.

Most B2B marketing teams reach the same point a few months after launch. The site is live, requests keep coming, and nobody owns the website full time. Engineering is busy with the product. The designer is busy with campaigns. So pages wait.

When an in-house hire makes sense

If the website changes daily, is a product in its own right, or needs deep integration with internal systems, a full-time person inside the team is worth it. You get someone in every meeting and on every thread.

The catch is range. One hire rarely covers design, front-end build, CMS structure, technical SEO and analytics at the same level. And the role is hard to cover when that person is away or leaves.

When a website partner makes sense

If the site needs a steady flow of new pages, landing pages and improvements, but not a full-time seat, a partner usually fits better. You get senior design and build without hiring, onboarding or managing a new role, and the work keeps moving when someone is on holiday.

What to ask any partner before you sign

  • Who actually does the work? You want to talk directly to the person designing and building your site.
  • How do requests move? A shared board with what’s in progress and what’s next beats a ticket queue.
  • How long does a typical request take? Ask for a range, not a promise of ‘fast’.
  • How are bigger changes reviewed? Short live reviews with the people who approve the work save days of back and forth.
  • What happens if we stop? You should own everything and be able to run the site without them.

How we set it up

At AGR Studio, a website partner is one senior team that owns your site. We work from a shared priorities board reviewed every week, day-to-day requests go through Slack, and most requests take 1 to 7 business days. You can work with us hourly, on a base retainer with extra hours when you need them, or on an unlimited retainer.

If you’re weighing up a hire against a partner, book a call and we’ll tell you honestly which one fits.
